Salt Flush
Lets Talk Salt……..
Salt is something that many people have chosen to remove from their diet and their daily regime. Did you know that the intake of salt was once a life ritual?
I feel it’s time to revisit this MAGICAL mineral we call salt but….. I’m talking REAL salt - like Himalayan salt …NOT the processed salt we see on supermarket shelves today.
Dr. Joseph Mercola, a leading US physician who embraces a holistic health approach believes that salt:
- Regulates the water content throughout the body
- Balances the blood sugar level
- Balances excess acidity from cells - particularly those of the brain
- Helps reduce the rate of aging
- Helps clear mucus and phlegm from the lungs
- Helps clear congestion in the sinuses as it acts like a natural antihistamine
- Prevents cramping of muscles
- Strengthens bone structure – osteoporosis can occur when the body needs more salt and it takes it from the bones
- Is a natural hypnotic and regulates sleep
- Maintains libido
- Prevents varicose and spider veins on the legs and thighs
- Is essential in the regulation of blood pressure and can stabilise irregular heartbeats in conjunction with water
- Assists in absorption of food particles through intestinal tract…and
- Hydroelectric energy in the cells of the body is generated with the assistance of salt.
How about that!!!
I have recently begun a daily ritual of “Salt Water Flushing” I learned of this process while attending a 3 day workshop with Don Tolman, another leader in the health care arena. Don embraces self care and self education and has so much knowledge to share.
I decided I would try this salt water flushing technique as it was simple and I wanted to see what it could do for my body and my health. So, for the last two weeks, first thing in the morning I have drunk 1 full liter of filtered water that has 2 level teaspoons of Himalayan salt dissolved in it BEFORE I put anything else in my mouth.
It has been interesting to say the least! It was shared with me that this type of flushing may increase bowel motions which can come upon one with a sudden urge. So I decided to start on a weekend so I could be at home. The first day, drinking the salted water was not too difficult, yes it is salty but not as bad as I thought it would be. I didn’t notice any change in my bowel movement for the day and I certainly didn’t have the urge to clear my colon “in a hurry”. As days went by my movements became more regular and I do feel I am clearing my colon much better. But, wait there is more…..for the last two mornings for about two hours after rising, my sinus passages are clearing at a great rate all by themselves!! AND I had a prominent varicose vein on my left leg which is no longer visible – I only noticed this yesterday. The only thing that is different with my daily regime is the salt flush…Looking at Dr. Mercola’s list above, the salt flush may be the reason the vein has disappeared…hmmmm interesting.
Points to note:
- Cleansing with salt in this manner – 1litre water with 2 level tsp Himalayan salt, drunk in the morning before ingesting ANYTHING else, will assist in cleansing the digestive tract.
- This ratio of salt (1 liter water with 2 level teaspoons salt) has the same salinity of blood, sweat and tears and so it is not taken up by the body; it simply flushes the “house”.
- The body will only absorb about 50% of the water and none or VERY LITTLE of the salt – so, additional salt needs to be consumed through the day as crystals in the mouth with a little water or on food.
- Everyone’s system is different - feel into if it is for you.
- I have had some very positive feedback from others who have also chosen to give this SIMPLE practice a try - Have the courage to see what it does for you!!
- Open lesions on the skin do well with salt intake but also being bathed with salt water or swimming in the ocean
- If you have enough salt in your body you will not have an over abundance of bad bacteria or yeast and fungi (they don’t like the saline environment) – the pH of saline is neutral
- Bones are 21% sodium (Na)
- You MUST always make sure you are drinking enough water to flush any EXCESS salt out of the system (How much do I drink? 2.5 to 3 litres of water per day).
